Helpful Travel Tips on How to Pack Lightly When Flying on an Airplane

By Connor R Sullivan

Traveling by airplane used to be considered a luxury many years ago and one that people would look forward to doing deal while dressed up for that special occasion. Now, it is no different than traveling by any other mode of transportation like a bus or a train and has become a more stressful one to many passengers since the North America 9/11 attacks. Because of terrorist attacks using airplanes as their weapons, the security for airplane travel is greater and because of it, there are more rules than ever on what you can and cannot bring on board. This will offer some tips on how to pack in a carry on bag for your trip, and things to know about airline travel to reduce price, the stress on your day of travel whether it is using a luggage cart or portable cart to transfer your bags from the car to the terminal or packing your own meal for the plane.

In addition to the security measures, the economy has affected the airlines and they are now charging passengers for everything that used to be included from checked luggage to beverages. They not only charge for oversized luggage but also for each checked piece and any snack or meal you may want on board.

The best thing to be able to do is to take your luggage with you when you travel by airplane. This will save you money that most airlines now charge to check a bag. It will also save you a significant amount of time before and after your flight. If you have a carry on bag you can check in ahead of time from your computer and use one of their kiosks in the terminal and skip the long lines at the counter to get to your gate. Also afterwards, you do not have to wait for your bag to arrive at the baggage claim. The final reason for carrying on your bag is not worrying about your luggage getting lost.

Many people who do not travel frequently over pack and bring too many things. This is something you can change in order to get a long vacation worth of clothing into a carryon sized bag. Stick with one solid color theme that can interchange with several different options. Choose black or brown clothing and add color by using different scarves or accessories. Also, shoes take up a lot of room so try to limit it to 2 pairs including the ones you are wearing. A nice black dress shoe and a comfortable one for walking is all you need whether you are male or female. If you do not have access to laundry machines, bring underwear that will wash and dry quickly.

Packing personal toiletries is also different now and has to be in containers or bottles that are less than 3-4ounces. These must all fit into a quart sized baggie for security. Buy airline approved containers to transfer your cosmetics and lotions into and you are all set till hotel.
