There are numerous ways to generate travel income. Some of them can be enough to support you, some provide a little extra spending money and some actually produce a significant income. Most countries require foreigners to have some kind of work permit if they are to hold any legitimate job. You will usually also need a permit to operate a business. With this in mind, most people will either be unable or choose not to get a work permit. Therefore let us look mostly at activities that can be done under the radar of regulatory agencies.
English Teacher: There are many on and offline programs with which you can obtain a certificate to teach English as a foreign language. Here in Thailand, many foreigners teach English and many are not native English speakers. Often they are working without a work permit and most don't seem to have a problem. There are always opening somewhere so it's pretty much a sure thing that you can find work. Some countries pay much better than others. Japan and South Korea are known to pay quite well.
Write About Travel: There are quite a number of publications that use travel articles that are both online and off. Travel magazines, travel company publications, Newspapers, and many travel related websites all need travel articles. A blog of your own is also a possibility. Create interesting content about travel or anything else that will attract visitors and then have products or affiliate programs available for your readers. There are training programs online for Travel writers if you need to boost your skills.
Writing Content: There are numerous sites and that will pay you to write articles about all kinds of subjects or you can do it as an independent. Many people who post articles on their blogs, use ghost writers. All you need is your laptop and you're good to go.
Massage Therapy: Massage can be one of the better paying activities assuming you have some aptitude for it. Trained massage therapists can work in spas and almost every good hotel has one. Skillful amateurs can work on other travelers that you meet on your journey. There are many styles of massage and if you know a style from another place (Thai, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi etc.), it can put you in higher demand.
Importing: I have a few friends whose income is completely from buying and reselling merchandise. They travel to Bali, India, Thailand, and other places, purchase inexpensive goods and ship them home to sell or market them online. They enjoy shopping and it's a good way to know more about other cultures. Get familiar with your countries import laws to avoid problems later.
Internet Marketing: Learn the system of Attraction Marketing that can be used with virtually any product or affiliate program. It is a very effective way to generate income. You will need a laptop and an Internet connection and of course the training to do it. It is a requirement for the next method, Travel Network Marketing.
Discount Travel Marketing: There are a number of Network Marketing companies that offer discount travel. I work with a company that has travel packages and also allows you to book travel anywhere, online. The business provides me with discount travel and I find many other travelers are interested in this business. I also market it online. It does not cost a lot to get started and has the potential for a very significant return. It requires most people about 3-6 months to create some dependable income. The other plus is that once you're up and running, it can be maintained with just a few hours work a week.
Travel is enlightening and enjoyable when you have the means to do it. Have a good trip and a successful business.
